Tuesday Events to Feature Over 50 Group Members, Western New York Congressional Delegation

Buffalo, NY – February 8, 2013 – Continuing their push for a true ‘One Level of Safety’ between the nation’s regional and mainline air carriers, the ‘Families of Continental Flight 3407’ will be in Washington on Tuesday, February 12th to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the fatal crash outside of Buffalo, New York in 2009. In conjunction with the visit, the families will hold a noon press conference in the Senate Visitors Center as well at a Remembrance Service at 5:30 pm in the Longworth House Office Building.

“2013 is a big year for FAA in terms of meeting the requirements of the Safety Act which was unanimously passed in 2010,” stated Scott Maurer of Moore, South Carolina, who lost his thirty year-old daughter Lorin. “The law looks great on paper, but unless we get these overdue final rules completed on pilot qualifications and crewmember training, much of our effort will have been for naught. Hopefully this trip will remind everyone here in Washington and across the aviation industry about what still needs to be done.”

The families will hold a noon press conference in the Senate Visitors Center, Room SVC-201-00. New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are expected to be in attendance. That will be followed by a 5:30 pm Remembrance Service (expected to be 15-20 minutes) in the Agriculture Committee Room, Room 1301 Longworth, where they will be joined by members of the Western New York House delegation. Both events are open to the public.
