Buffalo, NY – May 12, 2024 – The Families of Flight 3407 hailed Thursday’s passage of the FAA Reauthorization Bill as a significant step toward enhanced aviation safety and the protection of the flying public and issued the following statement:

First, we would like to express our gratitude to the leadership of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Senators Maria Cantwell, and Ted Cruz. Their collaborative efforts and commitment to bipartisan cooperation have resulted in a compromise bill that addresses critical aviation safety needs without compromising the current standards.

We also extend our sincerest appreciation to Senate Majority Leader Schumer.  His leadership and expertise were crucial in guiding this bill through the Senate, particularly in navigating the numerous challenges that arose during the legislative process.

And we must thank Senator Tammy Duckworth.  Her passionate advocacy for the current safety standards throughout this process was unwavering. She emphasized that given the recent near misses, this was not the moment to undermine the safety measures that were put in place in 2010 as a result of the investigation into the crash of Flight 3407.

Lastly, we urge the U.S. House of Representatives to swiftly advance the FAA Reauthorization Bill toward enactment.
