Families of Flight 3407 Urge Approval of Amendment to Eliminate Flight Simulator Provision

Buffalo, New York, July 16, 2023- With a vote on the current US House of Representatives’ FAA Reauthorization Bill approaching, the Families of Flight 3407 urgently appeal to all members of the House of Representatives to unite in support of a bi-partisan amendment offered by Representatives Brian Higgins, Nick Langworthy and Claudia Tenney.   This crucial amendment aims to remove a provision allowing for simulator training to replace valuable time in the cockpit.  The Family Group is concerned that any weakening of the current standard will put the flying public at risk.  Since the current standards were enacted in 2010, there have been no fatal crashes in the US – it’s safest period in commercial aviation history.

Flight 3407 Families Once Again Push to Keep Current Safety Standards in Place

Thune Amendment Viewed as Attempt to Weaken Current Standards

Buffalo NY, June 14th 2023-  With the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee meeting June 15th to consider the new FAA Reauthorization bill, the Families of Flight 3407 are reacting strongly  to an amendment proposed by Senator John Thune that would change the First Officer qualifications to allow actual experience in the cockpit to be replaced  with classroom time.

Flight 3407 Families Once Again Push to Keep Current Safety Standards in Place

Will Attend Mark Up Session for Pending FAA Reauthorization Bill

Buffalo New York, June 13, 2023. With the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s mark up session for the pending FAA Reauthorization Bill scheduled for Tuesday June 13,  the Families of Flight 3407 have expressed concern that some key components of the bill will weaken the First Officer pilot qualifications which were  established in the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act of 2010 and have been pivotal in reducing commercial airline fatalities in the US.

Flight 3407 Families’ Statement on the 14th Anniversary of the Crash

Buffalo, New York – February 12, 2023 – Fourteen years ago, on a Thursday evening, our loved ones boarded Continental Flight 3407 at Newark Liberty International Airport.  They boarded that plane not just with their luggage and belongings, but with so much more… memories, hopes, plans, dreams… further contributions to this world just waiting to be made.
Today serves as yet another painful reminder that Flight 3407 never made it.  And our world… and THE world… have never been the same because of it.

Family Group on Alert for Regional Airline Lobbying Effort to Weaken Entry-Level Pilot Experience Requirements

Buffalo, New York – February 1, 2023 – Nearly 14 years after the tragic and very avoidable crash of Continental Flight 3407 outside of Buffalo, New York, the ‘Families of Continental Flight 3407’ are readying for the upcoming FAA Reauthorization process and yet another attempt by the regional airlines to water down the higher pilot qualification requirements enacted in the aftermath of the crash.

Flight 3407 Families’ Statement on FAA’s Denial of Republic Airways Petition

Buffalo, New York – September 20, 2022 – We commend the Federal Aviation Administration for denying Republic Airways’ petition for exemption from the enhanced First Officer Qualification requirements that came about as a result of the landmark 2010 Aviation Safety Act.  These requirements have been the cornerstone of a package of regional airline safety reforms that have led to over thirteen years without a fatal crash on a U.S. commercial carrier, by far and away the safest period in the skies that our country has experienced.
